Taste of Port Douglas

August 22, 2015 @ 10:00 am - August 23, 2015 @ 4:00 pm

This August, Far North Queensland’s premier culinary event, Taste Port Douglas, will showcase the region’s best over an action-packed three-day festival celebrating nothing but world-class food, beverages and talent.

Some of the nation’s top chefs have been enlisted to present these offerings through a series of cooking demonstrations, local restaurant food stalls, produce and wine stalls, industry expert talks and live music.

The list of top-notch talent includes local and interstate chefs from some of the country’s most respected establishments. On the chef’s bill are Melbourne industry leaders Adam D’Sylva (Coda, Tonka), Daniel Wilson (Huxtable, Huxtaburger) and Ian Curley (The European), Sydney’s Colin Fassnidge (Four in Hand Hotel), plus plenty of local award winning talent with Cameron Matthews (The Long Apron) and Spencer Patrick (Harrisons, Bucci).

Spencer Patrick doubles as event organiser and orchestrator, being one of the founding members of Taste Port Douglas, which launched in 2013. Since its inception, Taste Port Douglas has grown from a one-day event to a three-day festival for 2015.
Patrick’s passion for the region and its producers is what has driven the busy chef restaurateur to deliver this great event for Australia’s far-north. “I want to see the North Queensland food scene become an ongoing and permanent part of Australia’s food conversation and I want people from all over the world to discover the depth of what we do up here, from paddock to plate,” says Patrick.

A centrally located ‘Status Plus’ main stage will be the epicenter of the festival and will be abuzz with demos from guest celebrity chefs from 10am to 4pm over the Saturday and Sunday.

Reaching late into the night, the Saturday festival-goers can attend the Harry Hawker Street Food Party, which will see several celebrity chefs run food stalls and a specialty wine bar over live music and a sun-setting backdrop.

Further foodie experiences held away from the festival grounds include a series of ‘Big Taste’ dinners, five events held at top local restaurants that will host guest celebrity chefs, food lovers and producers, and showcase a locally inspired menu with matched wines across four courses. Other culinary experiences include a cultural food tour led by local Aboriginal Kuku Yalanji and an authentic farm tour exploring tropical Far North Queensland produce.

Individual tickets are available for three distinct sessions and are valid for the indicated session only. Weekend passes are available for a discounted rate on all three sessions.
