Melbourne Venue Takes Out Top Spot in Top 100 Restaurants

Melbourne’s Chin Chin restaurant has taken out the top spot in Yelp’s annual top 100 restaurants poll. Yelp – an app that publishes crowd sourced reviews about local businesses – compiled the list utilsing Yelp data dating back to 2011, when the brand launched in Australia. Businesses were compared via a ranking system that considered ratings and the number of reviews that a venue attracted, while also accounting for quality, popularity and statistical fluctuations. Taking a local approach, and in an effort to ensure consistency in the results, Yelp only counted reviews written by Yelp members in their home location in Australia.

Melbourne restaurants took out 28 spots in the top 100, with five (Chin Chin, The Hardware Societe, The Vegie Bar, MoVida Bar de Tapas and  Bowery to Williamsburg), placing in the top 20.

Last years’ winner, Mamak, NSW, dropped to fifth place in 2016.
