The hustle and bustle of everyday life here in Brunswick can take its toll from time to time, even on an almost overly bubbly and energetic twenty-something year old. Loving life is a full-time affair, so when I find something I like, it tends to draw me back in for more.
I set out with my friend Greg, a French national, on an adventure to find something that might rival the hubris of French pâtisseries.
Case in point, Rustica Sourdough Bakery & Cafe. This is one of my favourite haunts. I’ve become somewhat of a regular here, and with good reason!
As with all of my most memorable lunches, we started off with coffee – I got my usual long black and Greg ordered a short macchiato. The aroma of the coffee and the ambiance of Rustica coupled with good company and conversation was almost overwhelming – and we hadn’t even got our food yet!
Before we could really get into our coffee, we were served our order: a key lime and pandan cronut, an apple croissant, and an caramel-date danish. Bon appétit!
As you can see, the presentation at Rustica is top-notch. The pastries themselves were fresh and flavourful. If you’re ever in the neighbourhood, you must stop in and try their cronut; it is absolutely delectable!
There’s a reason I keep coming back here. As we leave the cafe, I ask Greg if it’s as good as back home. His response?
Vraiment!
